Work in Progress

So, I've been getting in some decent studio time lately, and to show for it, I have two of the bee pendants finished and a third nearly finished. But what I'm really excited about is a piece that was sparked by my visit to California. While we were there, we visited the Birch Aquarium and I fell in love with some of the fish there. They were absolutely stunning, and I took a number of pictures. So, after I recovered from jet lag and then found some motivation, I started on a fish chasing. This is a lionfish.

I'm pretty happy with how it's turned out, especially the pectoral fin. That fin is probably my best bit of chasing so far, especially with how well defined it is from the body. There's a pretty nice undercut to keep it distinct, and it's raised nice and high above the body.

Now, the only problem is deciding what to do with it. It either wants to be a very large pendant or a very large brooch. And then I need a surface treatment, either enamel or patina. So, it'll probably kick around my bench for a bit before I decide what it'll become.

I also spent yesterday (Saturday) working at the studio during the Onancock School's Pignic and met lots of lovely people there because of it. I'll be there next weekend as well, for both Second Friday and also Harborfest.
