I've been making steady progress on my barnacle projects. You remember them, from these posts, right? Well, I went to work on finishing the larger barnacles (which will go on the bracelet in the first link, with the beads and blue-green silk embroidery) and an hour or so into working, I discovered I'd used absolutely all the oxygen in my tank and would have to wait until I got it filled to do any more work with my torch.
Fortunately, I'd already had a whole bunch of the smaller barnacles made. So I took the embroidery floss I acquired while I was in Philadelphia and started working on the second bracelet, which is slightly smaller and differently shaped. It's been coming along nicely.
I'm not sure if it's finished yet. I know I have a little bit more embroidery to do on it, but it might also need some beads, or some silk ribbon- I haven't quite decided yet. I do know for sure that this bracelet needs a sweet little storage pouch to complement and keep it safe though! I'm pretty thrilled with it so far, especially how dramatic the oxidized silver barnacles look against the cream embroidery. Pleased with the embroidery too, which is good because I spent quite some time splitting the strands and mixing the colors together. I've been on the fence about whether or not this idea would work and if I could actually pull off a more mixed media type of piece, so it's really good to know that this is working. Hopefully the other bracelet, which, due to the beadwork, could take a while to finish, turns out as nicely. (Or, dare I hope, even better!)
