Well, let me start this by saying I'm very pleased to announce that some of my work will be shown in the upcoming online exhibition next month over at Upstream People Gallery. It's an online gallery, and thus, an online exhibition, so no matter where you are, you can visit it. (I will be taking names and quizzing you, so you better go and pay attention!) I will, of course, remind you all when the first of August rolls around.
In the mean time, I took pictures of my newest pieces and got them uploaded to Etsy. Pretty pleased with the way the photos have turned out. I think I'm going back to using a plain white background, for now, especially since I've been making treasuries lately. The thing is, I find it hard to include pieces that have a really vibrant background in my treasuries, because it frequently messes with the mood of whole collection. (This might be me being a little bit of a perfectionist, but I really aim for a cohesive feel throughout the whole treasury, and one piece with a bright orange background, while eye catching, kind of disrupts that.) Of course, in a few weeks, or a month or two, I may completely change my mind. One thing I will say, being indecisive about my backgrounds has definitely improved my photography skills.
Anyway, on to those photos and Etsy uploads I promised you! You may have seen some of these pieces before, but now here they are in prettier pictures, and also finished!
I'm really pleased with the detail on this band ring, and how well the photo captures it. I actually carved the texture with a file, and then rubbed two shades of dye into the crevices. The whole thing comes off looking like it was carved out of mammoth ivory, but it's actually another Faux Bone ring. It's also available for purchase on Etsy.
I've already posted a picture of this ring, but here's a detail shot. Again, Faux Bone with dye rubbed in, although this one only has one shade of dye. Also available on Etsy.
I've also posted images of this one before, but here, have another, along with a link to its listing on Etsy.
But you haven't seen this one! Unless, of course, you've been hanging around my studio. It's made of sponge coral and sterling silver barnacles, and it's totally sweet. There are pictures of my tiny fingers holding it over on Etsy, for a better idea of how large it is. (Not terribly large.) But I'm pretty pleased with how it turned out, I must say. And I'm on the look out for more beads like the sponge coral, because drilling it was wonderful. Anyway, you can see it over on Etsy here.
I've also been working on some other larger pieces lately, but they aren't far enough along to post photos of yet. Although I will give you a hint: tonight I carved in and bought a hand carder so I can mix shades of felt!
