Well, I'm back on track for my thing a week project. This week's project has actually been in the works for a little while. It was something of a material experiment, and I learned a lot from it. Without further ado:
It's a continuation of my series of pieces with ocean themes, but this one also incorporates some polymer clay as coral and resin. I like the look of the resin over the beads, it makes everything look like it's wet or submerged under water. Unfortunately, it didn't do a lot for the polymer clay coral. The coral was very textured, but after the resin cured, it lost a lot of the appearance of depth. I think that when I play with it again, I'm going to use a wash or two of paint to bring out the shadows and highlights before I put resin over everything.
But I think that there's a lot of potential for this, and I'll probably do a series of beads to make into a necklace.
