Shipwreck Debris Jewelry

I've been working on some new more production type pieces of jewelry lately, and I thought I'd share some in progress pictures with you all.  Like a lot of what I've been making lately, they're also covered in barnacles.

This one is a simple pendant.  I need a smaller group of accent barnacles up in the top right of this piece, I think, before I can call it finished.  Also, some oxidation on the barnacles.

The barnacles aren't actually attached to this wooden bead yet, so ignore the funny looking bits- they're the double sided tape I'm using for positioning. (A random note on double sided tape- it's amazing.  But if you want it to actually stay on and hold tight, get Alvin brand.  Scotch doesn't hold as well.  Of course, good luck ever getting the Alvin brand double stick tape off a paper product without shredding it.)  This is directly related to the beads I made back in April.  I had some issues with the blackened beads, and thought maybe it'd be a better idea to use something that would take color better, like wood.  And then it occurred to me that I might be able to use commercial beads and alter them.  The jury is still out on whether or not I'll be painting or dying or staining the wooden beads black, since I think I might like the look of the wood.

The wood and the silver barnacles actually reminds me of shipwreck debris, actually.  I'm definitely going to be playing with some more wood too, and some other materials as well.  I like the juxtaposition of the silver barnacles with materials other than metal.  It's kind of surprising, since I was never terribly excited about mixing different materials (other than metal and enamel, which is so expected that it doesn't count at all) when I was an undergrad.
