I actually don't have a photo of this week's thing of the week. You see, my dad and my stepmom came into town to visit for the weekend, and she mentioned that she'd been wanting a pair of silver hoop earrings.
Coincidentally, I'd been so busy cleaning that I hadn't had anything made for the week. So I whipped up a pair of earrings, finishing them after everyone went to sleep on Sunday night, and she took them with her when they left Monday morning, before I could wake up enough to get a photo!
It did get me thinking about hoop earrings though. I put a simple post back on hers, because they were quite small and I had no tubing on hand, but there are a lot of different ways to make closures for hoops. I'm definitely considering making a much fancier pair of hoops (complete with complicated chasing, of course!) for my next big project.
After I finish the pieces I'm working on now, of course! With any luck, I'll be posting a fairly fabulous pair of earrings for you all to oogle this week. (Trying to meet a deadline of the 25th!)
I would love to see some examples of hoops. I am going to quit looking for the 'perfect' pair & try making some in my next jewelry class
ReplyDeleteFor this pair, I just used some 16g silver wire, wrapped it around a mandrel, and added pre-made sterling silver post backs and earnuts, which I bought in packs of 100. You could definitely use patterned wire though, or half round wire, for a really cool look that would take all of fifteen minutes to make.
